My Favorite Morning Routine:

I will preface that I have combination skin so knowing your skin type is helpful. I love to test a bunch of skincare products and see which ones I love the most which I base on texture, ingredients, reviews and whether I notice any breakouts.

A simple morning skincare routine can set the tone for your day and ensure your skin stays healthy and glowing. Here’s a straightforward guide that includes a gentle face wash, lotion, and sunscreen to help you achieve that radiant complexion. I love to put on a podcast while I do this. I usually close my eyes and just really enjoy the feeling of pampering myself.

Step 1: Gentle Face Wash

Start your day by washing your face with a gentle face wash suited to your skin type. If you have dry or sensitive skin, opt for a hydrating cleanser that won’t strip away your skin’s natural oils. For oily or combination skin, a foaming or gel-based cleanser can help remove excess sebum without over-drying.

1. Wet your face: Use lukewarm water to dampen your skin. Avoid hot water, as it can irritate and dry out your skin.

2. Apply the cleanser: Take a small amount of the face wash and gently massage it into your skin using circular motions. Focus on areas where you may have excess oil or dirt build-up, such as your forehead, nose, and chin.

3. Rinse thoroughly: Make sure to wash away all the cleanser with lukewarm water, leaving your skin clean and fresh.

4. Pat dry: Use a clean towel to gently pat your face dry. Avoid rubbing your skin, as this can cause irritation.

My Choice: Cerave or La Roche work well for me.

Step 2: Lotion

After cleansing, it’s essential to hydrate your skin. A good lotion helps replenish moisture and creates a barrier to lock it in. Depending on your skin type, you can choose a lightweight gel for oily skin or a creamier formula for dry skin.

1. Apply the lotion: Take a small amount of lotion in your palms and rub them together to warm it up slightly.

2. Gently massage it onto your skin: Start from the center of your face and work your way outward. Don’t forget areas like your neck and décolletage, as these areas also need hydration.

3. Allow it to absorb: Give the lotion a minute or two to soak into your skin before moving on to the next step.

My Fav: Right now, I have gone back to Clinique gel moisturizer. It doesn't too heavy in my opinion and my skin feels dewy afterwards.

Step 3: Sunscreen

Protecting your skin from UV damage is crucial, even on cloudy days. A broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is ideal for daily use. I personally go for SPF 50 because I have pale skin and I am trying to limit how many more moles and freckles I get in this lifetime lol. It protects your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays that can lead to premature aging and skin cancer.

1. Choose the right sunscreen: Look for a sunscreen that suits your skin type. If you have oily skin, opt for a non-comedogenic, oil-free formula. For dry skin, a moisturizing sunscreen can work wonders.

2. Apply generously: Use about a quarter-sized amount for your face and neck. Make sure to cover all areas, including your ears and any exposed skin. I have realized I forget the tip of my nose often or other random places so pay attention when lathering yourself up. Oh, and put some on your hands while you are at it! My Mom always says your hands show your age more than anything because they are so frequently forgotten.

3. Reapply as needed: If you spend extended periods outdoors, remember to reapply your sunscreen every two hours, or more often if you’re sweating or swimming.

My Fav: For a more affordable option I like the beauty of Joseon rice sunscreen or TonyMoly GreenTea Sunscreen. There are some more luxurious brands that have great reviews that also look good like the Colorscience Sunforgettable total protection which even has a little makeup tint coverage.

Conclusion

This simple morning skincare routine, featuring a gentle face wash, a hydrating lotion, and a protective sunscreen, can make a significant difference in the overall health and appearance of your skin. Consistency is key, so make this routine a part of your daily ritual, and enjoy the beautiful, healthy skin you deserve.
