Introduction
Let’s be real; hitting a plateau in your workouts can be frustrating. You put in time and effort, yet your progress seems to stall. A plateau is just as much mental as it is physical. Luckily, I’ve developed some strategies to help me move past these workout plateaus, and I’m excited to share them with you. Here are three things I do that make a difference!
1. Change Up My Workouts
One of the primary reasons I experience plateaus is falling into a repetitive workout routine and feeling less excited about them. When I feel bored with my routine I tend to get sloppy. To combat this, I make it a point to change up my workouts regularly. This doesn’t mean I’ve thrown out my favorite exercises; rather, II mix some new ones in.
For example, If I do the same 5 abb exercises every time then I switch them out. I do 2 of the same and then 3 that involve weight or that are Pilates based. Looking up new videos and then trying them out is fun and can activate new muscles.
2. Listen to My Body
Another crucial strategy is tuning into my body each day. Some days I feel energized and ready to tackle heavy lifting, while other days might call for a lighter workout or even a rest day. By letting my body decide what feels good, I enhance my overall fitness experience and avoid burnout.
This approach fosters a mindful workout relationship. For instance, if I’m feeling inner resistance to my normal run on the treadmill and then 45 minutes of weightlifting then I will see what I want to do which could be an hour on the Stairmaster and 15 minutes of core.
3. Reassess My Diet
The final piece of the puzzle is re-evaluating my diet. Nutrition plays an essential role in fitness progress, especially when overcoming plateaus. If I notice stagnation in my results, I take a closer look at what I’m eating and assess whether my nutritional intake supports my fitness goals.
A big game changer for me was my protein consumption. For how much I was working out I needed to eat more in general, but it definitely meant I needed more protein. I am not a doctor, or a nutritionist so consult with yours to make a plan that works for you. My diet happened to play a big part in my physical plateau, so I wanted to share.
Conclusion
Plateaus are a natural part of any fitness journey, but they don’t have to be the end of your progress. By changing up workouts, listening to my body, and tweaking my diet, I’ve found effective ways to overcome these hurdles. Remember, every fitness journey is unique—try out these strategies and see what works best for you!
